A Fabulous Night to Remember – The SCCC Gala Dinner Dance
Under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency, Dr. Beat Nobs, Swiss Ambassador to Canada and the Bahamas, this year’s gala dinner dance was held for the 9th consecutive time at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto with over 130 guests in attendance.

This year’s theme was the canton of Ticino, featuring the Italian region of Switzerland with its culinary delights. Swiss Executive Chef Daniel Schick treated us to an outstanding 5-course meal including his famous Sweet Finale. The Ticino theme was aptly highlighted by Lugano Fine Foods, which sponsored the gift bags containing a bottle of high-grade olive oil. Another beautiful addition were the delicious chocolate table favours, which were kindly donated by Ingrid Laederach, Swiss-Master Chocolatier. The Consulate General of Switzerland in Montréal generously offered the Swiss wine.
Dave Murphy and his four-piece band were the musical entertainment of the evening again after last year’s success. They kept the audience on the dance floor the entire night.
Julie Atkinson was the lucky winner of the Grand Prize, traditionally raffled off at midnight. This includes SWISS Airlines and Switzerland Tourism donations of two business class flights and two first class train passes again, topped and sponsored by a two night stay at Villa Principe Leopoldo Lugano, Switzerland. What makes it special with this year’s winner is that she never has been to Switzerland. What a ‘first-class’ way to travel and explore.

A big thank you goes to Blandine Weiss for creating the beautiful centerpieces in line with the Ticino theme. She took over from Sonja Evans, who was responsible for the table decorations at the dinner dance for several decades. For this reason and her many other contributions to the SCCC, she was recognized as a honorary member of the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
Thank you to everybody who attended our Gala Dinner Dance and made this event a success. We hope to see you again on November 18th, 2017, for our next Dinner Dance!
