An Evening of Hands-on Learning with Heart & Stroke
Cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. When this happens, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. Brain injury can begin within five minutes.

What’s more, cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any age, often without warning. In fact, new data indicates that nearly half of cardiac arrests happen to people younger than 65. Each year in Canada an estimated 60,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of a hospital, and only one in 10 survive. But if there’s immediate intervention in the form of CPR and defibrillation, the chance of survival can double.
On March 27, members of the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) and their guests were invited to take part in an exclusive event hosted by Heart & Stroke. Participants experienced a fun and interactive session of CardiacCrashTM — a team-based, gamified approach to CPR/AED instruction.
The evening kicked off with a fast-paced and friendly competition between two teams looking to earn points by correctly answering questions and winning their group’s CPR practice sessions during an emotional, true-to-life cardiac arrest scenario. Everyone that attended had the opportunity to learn more about this critical medical emergency — where every second counts —while spending time with their fellow chamber members in an engaging experience. The evening then continued over dinner and drinks.
It was an energetic and insightful team-building event and we look forward to bringing you more exclusive learning and networking opportunities throughout the year as valued members of the SCCC.
